August 28, 2007lunar eclipse
I stayed up for the lunar eclipse last night.
When I went outside at 2:30 AM I found the eclipse was already underway,
with about a quarter of the moon obscured. I stayed out there until
about 3:30 AM, which was supposed to be the center point of the eclipse.
I haven't decided yet if staying up so late was worth it. I tried in vain to take some pictures, but there was no way that was happening. There just wasn't enough light for my camera. On the other hand, it was pretty impressive. What really surprised me was how much smaller the moon looked under those conditions. And of course the red glow was very cool. I couldn't help but think it looked like Mars might look if it were that big. But I sure was tired the next day.
