I've been thinking about Spanair flight JK 5022, an MD-82 which crashed
as it was taking off in Madrid. The accident happened 3 days ago,
but no cause has yet been announced.
It seems obvious they were having a problem with lift. According to reliable reports the plane used the entire runway in its take-off roll, and when it finally did take off it shook from side to side before losing altitude and crashing into the ground. My conclusion is that the flaps were not properly deployed. It's possible there was a mechanical malfunction, but the most likely cause of the flaps not being properly deployed is that the pilots forgot to deploy them. We shall see. I've been thinking about starting a news blog for articles such as this one. There are so many news stories that I wish I'd commented on over the last few years. Another story I've been following recently, of course, is the US election. Obama was not a good choice for the Democrats, in my opinion. I think Clinton would have had a way better chance of winning the election than Obama will. It's like the Democrats don't want to win. Is America really ready to elect a black president? Once again, we shall see.
